The Evolution of Sweat Care: How Skoop Built a New Category
Hi, I’m Hannah, Founder of Skoop, and a lifelong sweater.
I’ve worked in skincare my whole life, and over time, I started to notice something. We had products for everything, acne, sensitivity, dryness, pigmentation. Entire categories built around specific skin concerns. And then there was sweat.
Outside of the deodorant aisle, or the dusty back shelf of a chemist, there was nothing. And even then, those options were built on the same idea, that sweat is bad, shameful, and something to eliminate at all costs. This pushed products filled with harsh ingredients, things we felt we had to use because there was no real alternative.
But when it came to sweat itself, and the discomfort it can cause across the body in so many ways, something every single one of us experiences, there was a clear gap. No one was talking about it properly, and no one was solving it in a way that felt good to use, looked good on your shelf, and actually worked with your body, not against it.
For me, this wasn’t just a business insight, it was deeply personal. I’ve dealt with chafe since I was young. Growing up, my body was a different shape to the rest of my family, and it wasn’t something anyone really understood.
I remember being 10 years old on a family holiday to Bali, experiencing such severe chafe I could barely walk. And the worst part was, where do you even go for relief? Nowhere.
From there, it became a cycle of trial and error. Deodorant between my legs, talc powder, layers of Vaseline. Products never designed for that part of the body. Looking back now, with what I know about skin, some of those choices could have caused real harm. But at the time, I was dealing with discomfort, navigating shame, and willing to try anything.
Fast forward to adulthood, and that same experience followed me. The real tipping point came when I was nine months pregnant, in the middle of summer. My body was changing, my skin was more sensitive, and I went into a chemist looking for relief.
The experience felt uncomfortable from the start. There was an underlying sense of shame, like this wasn’t something I should be asking about. I was handed a product packed with aluminium and heavy ingredients, something that didn’t feel aligned with what I knew about skin, or what I wanted to be putting on my body.
That moment stayed with me.
With my background in skincare, I knew there had to be a better way. I knew we could create products that were effective, that actually worked, without relying on harsh or outdated ingredients. It just meant going deeper, working harder, and being more intentional with our formulations.
As I got further into building Skoop, it became clear this wasn’t just about solving one problem, even though for me, it started with chafe.
We were creating products for people who sweat, just like we create products for people with acne or sensitive skin.
That’s when it clicked. Sweat care wasn’t just a product idea, it was an entirely new category.
Skoop was born to normalise what is truly normal. To remove the shame, create better solutions, and support people in feeling comfortable in their own skin.
Because at the end of the day, we all sweat. And we all deserve products that actually work with our bodies, not against them.
